Chelsea Hodson's Rose Books & A Playlist of New Music
plus recommended books by Tamara Faith Berger & Lars Iyer, recommended music by Arthur Russell, and a 26-song playlist of new music
Geoff Rickly’s debut novel Someone Who Isn’t Me is a smart and visceral work of autofiction. Rickly, member of the bands Thursday, No Devotion, and United Nations, captures on these pages the raw energy of music (and drugs) and especially how these affect his everyday life.
Someone Who Isn’t Me is the first book published by Chelsea Hodson’s new indie press, Rose Books. Chelsea’s writing is always always smart, probing, and inventive in her essays and poetry. Her essay collection Tonight I’m Someone Else is a personal favorite.
I am already looking forward to Rose Books’s next book, Christopher Norris’s debut novel, The Holy Day (out in October).
Reading Someone Who Isn’t Me made me think of Giancarlo DiTrapano, publisher of Tyrant Books. Everything Gian published, from works by Atticus Lish to Annie Dewitt to Scott McClanahan, struck a chord in me, rung a bell at the center of my being. Gian is missed every day, but I am happy to see people like Chelsea Hodson opening presses to publish great literary works.
