Party Like LHB Turns 21: the playlist

Last week’s newsletter mentioned a future party for Largehearted Boy’s 21st anniversary. Parties need music, either live or curated by playlist or DJ.

I’ve made many playlists. On cassettes, CDs, and Spotify. For lovers, friends, and holidays. When hosting a get-together, however, I am happy to turn over the musical reins to others.

Music for individuals or a small group is one thing, but setting the background for a party or public event is another skill altogether. I marvel at DJs who can gauge their audience and seamlessly build the excitement level. My partner does this often with a dizzying blend of ‘80s hip-hop and R&B, with the occasional boy band and recent banger tossed in for effect.

Below is this week’s playlist, a blend of upbeat music I would play if I HAD to put together for a Largehearted Boy partay.
