Who Are Your Favorite Publishers?

I am putting together a list of my favorite books of the year so far, and choosing only six is daunting. 2023 has offered so many titles that moved me, that changed my worldview. Short story collections have been especially rich. Look for the list (as well as my favorite albums of the year) in this week’s free newsletter.

When I think about the year’s best books, I think about the work publishers do. From editors to designers to publicists to marketing to sales to the warehouse crews. Publishing a book takes more than an author these days (even for self-published writers).

This year Pantheon’s graphic novels and Astra House’s fiction have particularly impressed me, as has everything Two Dollar Radio has put out.
